Our Plan
What We Will Do Today
- Can you catch the teacher's counting mistake?
- Learn to count one-to-one — touch each one!
- Draw dots to show how many
- Count our sorted groups
- Brain break — count with our bodies!
- Write the number and draw dots on our worksheet
3 / 15
Watch Carefully!
Did I Count Right?
Your teacher is counting some objects out loud right now.
Listen carefully. Did the teacher count right?
Put your hand up if you hear a mistake!
Counting carefully matters — a mistake changes the number!
4 / 15
Lesson 1
Count One at a Time
Touch each object. Say one number for each one.
Touch → Say a number → Move to next one
Never skip one. Never count one twice!
5 / 15
Lesson 1
Write the Total
When you finish counting, the last number you said is the total.
5
There are FIVE objects in this group.
Write the number on your worksheet. That is how many are in the group!
6 / 15
Lesson 2
Draw Dots to Show How Many
One dot = one object. Draw a dot for EACH object you counted.
Count your dots to check! Do they match the number you wrote?
7 / 15
Lesson 2
Why Draw Dots?
Dots are a picture of how many things there are.
Number alone
4
You have to know what "4" means
Number + dots
4
You can SEE it and check it!

Activity Time!
Count Your Groups!
Get your sorted groups from today. For EACH group:
- Touch each object and count out loud
- Write the total number on your worksheet
- Draw that many dots in the dot box
- Count the dots to check!
- Repeat for every group
You have 10 minutes. Go slowly — careful counting is better than fast counting!
9 / 15
Counting Helper
Tips for Counting Right
- Touch each object as you count — use your finger!
- Move each counted object to a separate pile
- It is ALWAYS okay to count again to check
- Write the number right after you finish
- Draw one dot at a time — don't rush!
There is no prize for going fast! Slow and careful is the right way.
10 / 15
Brain Break — Count with Your Body!
Your teacher will call a number.
Do that many jumps — count out loud as you go!
Jump 5! Clap 3! Stomp 7!
11 / 15
Debrief
What Did Your Numbers Say?
- Which group had the most objects?
- Which group had the fewest objects?
- Did counting a different way change your total?
- Did your dots match your number?
Numbers tell us how many. That is data!
12 / 15
Worksheet Time
Write and Draw
On your worksheet for each group:
- Write the group name
- Write the total number
- Draw dots — one dot for each object
- Check: do your dots match your number?
You can draw dots in a row or a circle — any way that helps you count them!
13 / 15
