Find a free real-world dataset online (weather data, sports stats, or population data). Write: (1) What is it about? (2) How many rows/columns? (3) What is the most interesting column?
2 Weather Data Deep Dive Easy Activity
Look up the high temperatures for your city for the last 30 days. Find: the highest day, the lowest day, and the average. Was any day surprisingly hot or cold?
3 Five Questions Challenge Medium Activity
Given a real dataset, write and answer 5 questions using only the data. Each answer must include a specific number from the dataset.
4 Data Scavenger Hunt Medium Group Activity
In teams, race to answer 10 questions about a shared real dataset. Each answer must include the exact number and column it came from. First team with all correct answers wins.
5 Missing Data Analysis Medium Discussion
Find a dataset with some missing values. How many entries are missing? In which columns? Does the missing data affect your ability to draw conclusions? How?
6 Surprise Finding Report Challenge Writing
Explore a real dataset until you find something surprising — a result that contradicts common sense or your expectations. Write a short report: What did you expect? What did you find? Why might the data show this?
