Difficulty levels: Easy Medium Challenge
1 Emergency Fund Scenario Easy Discussion
List 5 unexpected expenses that could happen to a 6th grader (broken phone screen, lost school supplies, etc.). For each one, estimate the cost. How much would you need in an emergency fund to cover them?
2 SMART Goal Builder Easy Activity
Write a SMART savings goal for something you actually want. Make sure it is: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Share with a partner for feedback.
3 Savings Calculator Medium Activity
Pick three things you want to buy. For each one, calculate: (1) The total cost, (2) How much you can save per week, (3) How many weeks it will take, (4) One want you could cut to save faster and the new timeline.
4 Savings Tracker Design Medium Creative
Design a visual savings tracker for your goal. It could be a thermometer, a progress bar, a jar with lines, or anything creative. The key: it must show your starting point, your goal, and your progress.
5 Patience vs. Impulse Medium Writing
Write about a time you bought something on impulse and later regretted it, OR a time you saved patiently and felt great when you finally got what you wanted. What did the experience teach you?
6 Family Savings Discussion Challenge Discussion
Ask a family member about the biggest thing they ever saved for. How long did it take? Was it worth the wait? What advice do they have about saving? Write up your findings.
