Session 6: Practice Activities
Time to Practice!
Here are 6 activities to reinforce what you learned. Try them all!
Difficulty levels: Easy Medium Challenge
1 Unit Price Challenge Easy Activity
Compare three brands of the same product (cereal, juice, or crackers) using unit pricing. Calculate the cost per ounce for each. Which is the best deal? Is the cheapest per unit also the one you would choose? Why or why not?
2 Price vs. Value Analysis Easy Research
Pick two versions of the same product — a cheap version and an expensive version (like headphones, shoes, or a backpack). Compare them on: price, durability, features, and reviews. Which is the better value? Write your conclusion.
3 Impulse Buying Journal Medium Writing
For one week, track every time you feel the urge to buy something unplanned. Write down: What was it? What triggered the urge? Did you buy it? If you used the 24-hour rule, did you still want it the next day?
4 Mock Grocery Store Medium Activity
Set up a mock grocery store with items and prices. Include unit prices. Add a 'FLASH SALE' on one item. Challenge: buy a week of healthy meals on a $25 budget. Did the flash sale tempt you? Was it actually a good deal?
5 Gratitude Inventory Medium Writing
List 10 things you already own that you are grateful for. For each, write one sentence about why it matters to you. Notice: do you still feel the need to buy more after completing this list?
6 Ethical Shopping Investigation Challenge Research
Pick a product you use regularly. Research: Where is it made? How are the workers treated? Is the company ethical? Would you pay more for an ethically-made version? Write a one-paragraph recommendation.
