Workbook — Session 14: Breakfast Time / وَقت الفُطور

Name: _________________________________

Print this page. Use it during the session. Keep it in your folder.

🟢 1. Today's letter — ذ (dhal)

Trace each dhal. Start at the top curve. Pull down and around. Don't forget the dot on top!

ذ . . . . ذ . . . . ذ . . . . ذ . . . . ذ

Now try writing one by yourself:

Big dhal! Make it huge (don't forget the dot ✨):

*Tip: ذ sounds like the th in "this" — not like "thumb." Put your tongue between your teeth and buzz.*

🟡 2. Find the dhal

Circle every word that has the letter ذ (dhal) in it:

ذَوقي     خُبز     لَذيذ     زَيتون     هَذا     شَاي

Hint: three of them have a dhal. Look carefully for the dot on top!

🟠 3. I can read these words

Read these three breakfast words out loud. Point to each one as you say it:

Picture Arabic Say it
🍞
خُبز
khubz
🫒
زَيتون
zay-tun
🍵
شَاي
shay

After you read them, tell a grown-up: "These are on a Levantine breakfast table." Then ask them: "What was on YOUR breakfast table when you were little?"

🟣 4. Sort it: what's on the breakfast table?

Some of these foods belong on a Levantine breakfast table. Some don't. Circle ✅ if it belongs, ❌ if it doesn't.

Food Belongs on the breakfast table?
لَبنة
(labneh)
✅    ❌
زَعتَر
(za'tar)
✅    ❌
🍕 pizza ✅    ❌
زَيتون
(olives)
✅    ❌
🍦 ice cream ✅    ❌
خُبز
(bread)
✅    ❌

🔵 5. Draw your breakfast plate

Draw what's on YOUR favorite breakfast plate. Add labels in Arabic for anything you know!

🌟 6. Mini-challenge (optional stretch)

In Levantine Arabic, when you LOVE something you eat, you say:

**لَذيذ!**
*(la-zeez! — yummy! delicious!)*

See the ذ hiding in there? TWO of them!

Fill in the blank. What's your ذَوقي (your taste — what YOU like)?

**ذَوقي:**
_______________________ *(write a food you love — in English or Arabic!)*

Now say out loud: لَذيذ!

📝 Tonight's home practice (1 minute)

Tomorrow morning at breakfast, point to one thing on the table and say its Arabic name. Even if it's just bread!

The food I pointed to Arabic word I said Who heard me
