Day 7 · 15 minutes
Grok
Synthesize what the internet is actually saying right now.
~15 min read + 10 min hands-on1 Why this tool matters
Grok is xAI's chatbot, integrated directly with X (formerly Twitter). Its edge is live access to the conversation happening on X in the last hour — useful for breaking news, market reactions, and the informal pulse of an industry. Treat it as a lens, not a source of truth.
2 Walkthrough
- Go to grok.com (free tier available) or open Grok inside X.
- Ask: What is the market saying about the latest Fed rate decision? (or whatever is happening this week).
- Notice that Grok cites recent posts, not just web pages.
- Ask a question in your professional domain: What are researchers on X discussing about [your field] this week?
- Compare the tone to what ChatGPT says about the same question — Grok is more informal and opinionated.
3 Your turn
Today’s exercise
Pick a topic in your field. Ask Grok what the live conversation on X is saying. Open two of the cited posts to see the source. Decide whether this is a useful signal or too noisy for your work. (It's different for everyone.)
4 Pro tip
Worth keeping
Grok can be dismissive of sources it disagrees with. Always follow through to the cited posts. You are using it for the pulse of the conversation, not the truth of it.
