Workbook — Session 46: Now I Read! — Good Morning

Print this page. Use it during the session. Keep it in your folder.

🟢 1. Today's review — the little marks (diacritics)

The little marks above and below letters tell us how to say the word. Let's trace them on top of the letter ب:

بَ (fatha — "ba")    بِ (kasra — "bi")    بُ (damma — "bu")    بْ (sukun — "b")

Now trace them yourself. Pay attention to whether the mark is above or below:

بَ . . . . بِ . . . . بُ . . . . بْ . . . . بَ . . . . بِ

Practice writing the marks on these letters:

صـ حـ ـا خَيـ

🟡 2. Find the fatha ( َ )

Circle every word below that has a fatha ( the little slash above a letter — "ah" sound):

صَباح     النّور     الخَير     كِتاب     شَمس

Hint: look for the little dash sitting on top of a letter.

🟠 3. I can read these words

Read these out loud. Point to each word as you say it. Listen for the little marks doing their job!

Picture Arabic Say it
🌅
صَباح الخَير
sa-baah al-khayr
☀️
صَباح النّور
sa-baah an-nuur
👋
أَهلاً
ah-lan

When somebody says صَباح الخَير to you, you answer back with صَباح النّور. It's like a little song between two people.

🟣 4. Match the greeting to the answer

Draw a line from what someone says to what you answer back:

Someone says... You answer...
صَباح الخَير
─ →
أَهلاً وسَهلاً
مَرحَبا
─ →
مع السَّلامة
أَهلاً
─ →
صَباح النّور
يَلّا باي
─ →
مَرحَبا

🔵 5. Draw your morning

Draw what your morning looks like. Maybe it's a cup of tea, your cat on the balcony, or your little brother still in pajamas. Write صَباح الخَير somewhere in your drawing.

🌟 6. Mini-challenge (optional stretch)

Read this little exchange out loud. Try to read both parts — the question AND the answer:

— صَباح الخَير يا ماما!

— صَباح النّور يا حَبيبي.

— أنا جوعان.

— يَلّا، فُطور!

(— Good morning Mama! — Good morning my dear. — I'm hungry. — Yalla, breakfast!)

Did you read all four lines? Put a check: ☐

📝 Tonight's home practice (1 minute)

Tomorrow morning, say صَباح الخَير to the very first person you see. See what they say back!

Who I greeted What I said What they said back
