Day 12 · 15 minutes
DALL·E 3 (inside ChatGPT)
Generate illustrations without switching apps.
~15 min read + 10 min hands-on1 Why this tool matters
DALL·E 3 lives inside ChatGPT. That convenience is its superpower — you can describe an image conversationally, refine it with plain English (“make the cat orange, and put it on a red chair”), and copy-paste it into a document without leaving the tab. It is less stylish than Midjourney, but much easier to iterate on.
2 Walkthrough
- In ChatGPT, start a new chat. Type: Draw a friendly illustration of a scientist explaining a pie chart to a skeptical cat. Flat colors, editorial style.
- ChatGPT generates the image. Ask for changes conversationally: Make the cat look more skeptical. Add a lab coat on the scientist.
- Ask: Keep the same style but draw the scientist explaining a bar chart instead. (Style continuity in one conversation.)
- Download the image (right-click → Save).
- For a series (a deck, a blog post), ask ChatGPT to plan the images first, then generate each one.
3 Your turn
Today’s exercise
Generate two illustrations for a presentation, a blog post, or a social post you are working on this week. Keep them in the same visual style. Use them.
4 Pro tip
Worth keeping
ChatGPT refuses to draw real people by name. Describe the person's role and appearance instead (e.g. “a middle-aged doctor with kind eyes”) and you will get something usable.
