Print this page. Use it during the session. Keep it in your folder.
🟢 1. Today's letter — ي (ya)
Trace each ya. It sits like a little smile with two dots underneath.
Now try writing one by yourself:
Big ya! Don't forget the two dots underneath:
Tip: every single day of the week starts with the word يَوم — so ya is everywhere today.
🟡 2. Find the ya
Circle every word that has the letter ي (ya) in it:
يَوم الخَميس بُكرا اليَوم السَّبت الجُمعة
Hint: four of them have a ya. One of them has TWO ya's!
🟠 3. I can read these words
Read these three words out loud. Point to each one as you say it:
| When | Arabic | Say it |
|---|---|---|
| ⏰ right now | اليَوم |
al-yawm (today) |
| ⏪ the day before | أَمس |
ams (yesterday) |
| ⏩ the day after | بُكرا |
buk-ra (tomorrow) |
After you read them, tell a grown-up: "Yesterday was ___. Today is ___. Tomorrow is ___." Use English for the day name if you need to — we're getting there.
🟣 4. Put the days in order
Number the days 1 through 7, starting with Sunday = 1 (that's how the Arabic week is counted!).
| Day | Arabic | Number (1–7) |
|---|---|---|
| Friday | يَوم الجُمعة |
____ |
| Sunday | يَوم الأَحَد |
____ |
| Wednesday | يَوم الأَربعاء |
____ |
| Monday | يَوم الإِثنَين |
____ |
| Saturday | يَوم السَّبت |
____ |
| Thursday | يَوم الخَميس |
____ |
| Tuesday | يَوم الثُّلاثاء |
____ |
Fun fact: الإِثنَين comes from the number 2, الثُّلاثاء from 3, الأَربعاء from 4, الخَميس from 5. The days literally count themselves!
🔵 5. Draw your week
Draw something you do on your favorite day of the week. Write the Arabic day name under your drawing.

🌟 6. Mini-challenge (optional stretch)
Fill in this little sentence about your real week. Use Arabic for the days if you can!
Example: Today is يَوم الثُّلاثاء. Yesterday was يَوم الإِثنَين. Tomorrow is يَوم الأَربعاء.
Now say the whole sentence out loud to someone in your house. Watch their face. 😄
📝 Tonight's home practice (1 minute)
Tonight at dinner, ask one person in your family: "What day is it today?" Then answer them in Arabic.
| Day I asked about | Arabic day name | Who I told |
|---|---|---|
| today / yesterday / tomorrow | _____________ |
