🧠 Teaching This Course to ND Students (Ages 11–12)
- Show the agenda first every session — predictability reduces anxiety. Use the slide deck opener every time.
- One concept per chunk — each lesson is ~30 min. Don't rush. Let concepts breathe before moving on.
- Hands-on before abstract — the barter simulation precedes the definition of money for a reason. Experience first, label it second.
- Journal time is sacred — protect the quiet writing window. It's a processing break, not an assignment.
- Celebrate "wrong" answers — 11-year-olds will say "to buy stuff." That's a great starting point, not a wrong answer.
- Warn before transitions — "In 2 minutes we're switching to the activity." Abrupt changes disrupt focus.
- Movement = reset — the barter simulation is also a sensory and movement break. Build in physical activity every session.
